The Laredo Medical Weight Loss Clinic & Spa first welcomed clients in Austin, Texas back in 2009. Our growth led us to San Antonio in 2010 and later to Laredo in 2018. Over the years, we’ve proudly assisted over 40,000 individuals in meeting their weight loss objectives. We’re thrilled to offer our tried-and-true approach to the wonderful community of Laredo.

Our strategy for weight loss and anti-aging is rooted in non-surgical medical methods. Every program we offer is rigorously overseen by a qualified medical doctor, a nurse practitioner, and a committed team of medical experts.

Dr. Wendy Askew

Board-Certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist

Dr. Wendy Askew is a board-certified Obstetrician/Gynecologist in a private practice in San Antonio, Texas. She is also board-certified in Functional and Regenerative Medicine. Dr Askew participated in our Community Conversation in Amarillo, TX. In October, she will also be a part of our Texas Veteran Conference discussing how cannabis works.

Dr. Askew is a proud veteran of the USAF where she served on Active Duty for over eleven years. During her nearly twenty-year career in medicine, she has served on various hospital committees, trained residents in academic medicine programs, participated in medical missions, and built a thriving private practice. Dr. Askew hosts a vlog entitled The Whole Truth and is a contributing medical expert for many local and national publications.

She is on a mission to help patients achieve real health and wellness throughout their lives through the integration of holistic, regenerative, and conventional medicine therapies. Personally, experiencing the healing effects of cannabis medicine on her own autoimmune disease has deepened her conviction that patients deserve broad access to this healing plant.

Arturo Raul Ortiz

Founder

Arturo, originally from Laredo, Texas, graduated from United High School in 1984. At 17, he pursued studies at Laredo Jr College. By 1987, he took a break from academics to serve in the US Army for eight years. During his service, he received the distressing news of his father’s diabetes diagnosis, a disease that eventually led to his passing. This personal experience ignited a deep passion in Arturo for diabetes prevention.

After his military service, Arturo turned this passion into action. In 1995, he graduated from Galen College of Nursing and began his nursing career at South West General Hospital’s medical-surgical unit. This experience paved the way for a role in home health care, where he looked after homebound patients.

In 1999, Arturo relocated to Houston, continuing his nursing practice at Memorial Herman Hospital. With over a decade in the medical field, he transitioned to medical sales, focusing on medically managed weight loss clinics. His expertise led to a position at one of these clinics, deepening his experience with patients aiming for supervised weight loss.

In 2009, in collaboration with a doctor and a nurse practitioner, Arturo co-founded the True Weight Loss Clinic and Spa in Austin. A year later, they expanded with the Medical Center Weight Loss Clinic & Spa in San Antonio. Having assisted over 50,000 patients in their weight loss journeys, Arturo’s dedication is evident.

After 33 years away, Arturo’s journey led him back to Laredo. He acquired extensive knowledge and founded the Laredo Medical Weight Loss Clinic & Spa. With his genuine care for his patients, Arturo stands as a testament to dedicated healthcare professionalism.
